6 Degrees ...(of self?)

Do you ever notice how things change meaning over the course of time?  Did your mom or dad have a saying that at one time meant something so near and dear to your heart yet later in life those same words had new meaning?

When I was much younger, like 5, 6, and 7 years old "younger," my mom would say to me,

"If there were 6 more just like you.."

Sometimes she would lean in and say it with the warmest and most glowiest smile ever.  Sunbeams DaNcEd. Animals running all around.  It was like a magical circus.

Be still, my heart.  I would float after hearing these words.  MY MOM loves ME sooo much that SHE wishes she had 6 more JUST like ME!

I would elate.  Smile.  And then, after a few moments on Cloud 9, I would wonder about the math involved.  You know, the multiple of 6.  And, I would appreciate this WITHOUT knowing and comprehending the magnitude and impact of having sextuplets.  Sextuplets?

But then, a few years later, when you're a bit older those word are spoken again.  But, this time, those words don't feel all warm and fuzzy.   They take on a WHOLE new meaning.

With a tone inflection, a sort of scorn and a slight furled brow my mom utters,

"If there were 6 more JUST like you.."

Two things come to mind:

1) It's NOT what you say, it is definitely HOW you say it.

And,

2) Be Careful WHAT you ask FoR!

B good
